It was my husband’s birthday recently, and being my favorite person in the world, I always make sure to celebrate it with him in unforgettable ways.
This year we checked into one of the beautiful Luxury Cabins of Spicers Hidden Vale, located just one hour from Brisbane.
I’ve hoped to go there for a romantic escape since seeing stunning pictures of the retreat, admiring it as one of the best-looking options for romantic getaways Brisbane surrounds has to offer. It was finally time to go!
We received a warm welcome from the staff at reception, and check-in was fast. Following a map we received of the retreat, we head out to our luxury cabin. It was situated at the end of a road – number 34.
Little did we know as we walked onto the timber steps and through the door, what a wonderful romantic escape this would turn out to be.
Watch the video below to see what we saw as we continued to explore our dreamy cabin.
As we entered our luxurious cabin with its warm timber tones and beautiful furnishings, we spotted a bottle of wine and a welcome note.
In addition to the essentials, it featured everything that one could want from romantic accommodation and more. It included a king sized bed, a stone fireplace, a private veranda. There were two more unique features that we were looking forward to most as we haven’t experienced them before – a shower for two and an outdoor bathroom!
The view outdoors was just incredible… one we felt blessed to experience together.
The sun was starting to set, and we decided to make the best of the moment by relaxing on our private veranda and soaking in the incredible views. The scene before us just became even more breathtaking as the sun set over the far-reaching countryside.
It was time to get ready for dinner. After a short drive within the resort, we parked outside the Homage Restaurant, which had the prettiest lamps decorating the entrance.
Walking in, there was a bar on our right where we ordered drinks from the friendly bar staff. There was both an indoor and outdoor dining area – both looked equally inviting, but we were drawn to the beautiful light decorations outside.
Then something rather embarrassing happened. When we picked a table for two, we noticed a shawl on one of the chairs which signaled to us that someone else is already sitting there. We moved onto the next table and the same thing!? Turns out it was blankets placed there by the retreat staff for guests who feel cold sitting outside haha. Such a lovely touch, though!
As we settled into the seats of our table for two and placed our order, we were mesmerized by the fairytale scene before us. A luscious tree with fairy lights twirled around it and the branches extending out, leading our eyes to a swing.
My hubby grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the swing, which he knew I would love to try. I still had the giggles from misunderstanding what the blankets on the dinner seats were earlier, and the child-like feel one gets from being on a swing didn’t help! Okay, I was a bit tipsy from my delicious pink Moscato too, but it was a happy moment, and as I looked at my husband, this quote came to mind: “Every once in a while in the middle of an ordinary life, Love gives us a Fairytale.”
We headed back to our table when dinner was served, excited to dig into the fine-dining feast before us. We shared two different starters – one was the Mushroom, egg yolk and pine with fermented garlic, the other Homage farm pork roasted slowly over coals with rhubarb and tallow.
A cute little sack of potatoes accompanied it. As I bit into one of them, I realized it was raw and only for decoration lol which had us laughing again for hours 😛 The lovely waiter also kindly let me know I didn’t have to eat those haha
For the main course, we had the For two: Rosevale beef brisket roasted over coals, frickles, wood-fired onion sauce, sprouts, baked potato (it was so much yummier than the raw ones!).
What makes any dinner at Homage Restaurant extra special is that the Chef, Ash Martin is passionate about ‘paddock to plate’ philosophies and sources from local farmers and producers.
After dinner, we decided to relax at the fireplaces – there’s one outside and another inside which were both beautifully warm and toasty to enjoy together with some more wine.
That night I had the best sleep I’ve had in a long time while staying at any hotel – hubby and I both agreed that the comfort of the bed was just next-level.
We planned to fulfill a dream of ours to experience an outdoor bath during sunrise the next morning, but gosh it took some real effort to get out of that super comfy bed!
As I poured some bubble bath in the bath, I could the sun was already rising and starting to light up the stunning view.
Soon we slid into the warm water of our hot tub where we relaxed for what felt like hours of pure bliss as we watched the sun rise further into the misty morning.
Afterward, we got into the soft Spicers robes and hubby settled back into bed to do some reading while I went to soak up the winter sun and views from the veranda until it was time to get ready for breakfast.
While waiting for hubby to finish getting ready, I took a stroll around the property and stumbled upon this romantic seating for two with mountain views.
We headed back to Homage Restaurant but this time for breakfast and were amazed to see that the swing I had enjoyed so much the previous night, had an incredible view of the mountains during the daylight.
I sipped my hot chocolate as I took it all in, never wanting to forget the memories we made during our time there.
I snapped out of my little daydream as our breakfast arrived, we ordered the ‘Our Benny’ poached eggs, Homage farm ham, tarragon with hollandaise which was so delicious, my thoughts could only focus on the taste.
As with any fantastic romantic escape, we felt our hearts sink as we left this stunning retreat, but we are grateful for these memories that we can forever carry with us.
This was definitely one of our most romantic breaks away. One night is not enough, if you can, treat yourself to an extended stay for deeper relaxation and more exciting adventures. There is still much more to discover of everything this magnificent retreat has to offer.
