Are you considering visiting London as a romantic getaway with your partner? Here’s a list of some of the best romantic things to do in London that I can share with you based on my own experiences.
Head to Oblix at The Shard for a fancy drink with romantic views of London
You’ll find the Oblix restaurant and bar on the 32nd floor of The Shard where it will spoil you with breathtaking views of London with your meal or drinks. Sitting there sipping on a delicious Turkish Delight flavoured champagne is now one of my favourite memories of London and certainly one I recommend as a date idea while visiting London.
Explore Little Venice hand-in-hand for a relaxing, romantic date
This area is well worth visiting with your partner for scenic views. Best of all this attraction is free unless you decide to do one of the boat tours down the canal at an additional cost. There are plenty of waterside cafes, cozy pubs and restaurants in the neighbourhood to discover. Is it just me or are all places and experiences around the world with “Venice” its name just amazing for couples?
Surprise your partner with a ticket to an event they would love
Check out what events are on while you are in London as there might be something that you could book to surprise your partner. For example – being a massive Alice in Wonderland fan, I was fortunate to catch the temporary Alice in Winterland lantern festival during my visit to London which was magical. It also reminded me of when my hubby surprised me with a visit to an Alice in Wonderland attraction in New York – such a thoughtful gesture!
See how some of the best love songs in history were written
Think your partner might have an appreciation for love songs by The Beatles? Consider doing a self-guided Beatles walking tour which includes a stop at the British Library where you can see the original scribbles of one of the love song named “Michelle” for instance. There are some headphones on the wall where you can select a song you’d like that special person in your life to listen to.
Another great stop for some memorabilia of the band is the Hard Rock Cafe where you can see one of John Lennon’s jackets and more in a surprising underground section called The Vault. If your lady prefers Elvis love songs to that of The Beatles, she might swoon over Elvis’s jacket that’s also on display there. Only 10 minutes from the Hard Rock Cafe is Buckingham Palace – the home of the Royal Family. Consider surprising your princess with a tour of the inside if you can, and she’d like it.
Romantic stroll by the Thames River at sunset
Cross the Westminster Bridge around sunset for stunning views of the Thames River and its surroundings which includes Big Ben. The Coca-Cola London Eye Ferris wheel is also in this area – they offer a Champagne Experience too. If you’d like to take your date to where some of the most beautiful royal weddings in history have taken place – Westminster Abbey is the place to be, and it’s also in this part of town.
Cross not just another bridge together
Start a day at the London Bridge for some great views of the Tower Bridge which has to be one of the most beautiful bridges in the world! Make your way down the steps and along the river to get some close-up views of the spectacular Tower Bridge and cross it if you wish.
Treat your partner to a unique stay in London
For a unique and affordable accommodation outside of central London, consider the floating Good Hotel. The dining area features gorgeous views of the Thames River, and if you’re visiting during summer, there’s a rooftop terrace with an open-air cafe that offers panoramic views of the waterfront. Rooms offer water or city views too. I particularly enjoyed the Mojito cocktails from the bar!
That’s not all that makes the Good Hotel a special place. The hotel re-invests their profits to do social good by investing it towards training long-term unemployed locals and educate disadvantaged children. You’ll be helping the local community to maintain these programs if you choose to stay there.
Share a romantic cable car ride with spectacular views
Nearby the Good Hotel is the Emirates Air Line cable cars. Sharing a cable car with your partner is a fun and affordable way to enjoy some of the most amazing views of London! If possible, try to go during sunset for an even more romantic touch to the whole experience.
Get cozy under the pastel blankets while sharing cake at Peggy Porschen
If you don’t mind waiting in line to experience one of the most Instagrammed spots in London, I’m sure your lady will appreciate a visit to Peggy Porschen boutique bakery! When visiting this pretty pink cake parlour in winter, couples who choose to sit outside are given the cutest pastel blankets to cuddle under. The menu is full of delicious sweet treats to share or feed each other!

Thank you Amy! Here’s hoping you get to enjoy these romantic recommendations for London and others with your hubby soon 🙂
Drinks at the Shard is great! I think a high tea would be a really fun thing to do for a day activity! Great post! It’s still on my list to visit Peggy Porschen. What did you think about their cupcakes?
A high tea sounds like a great idea thanks Linnea! We haven’t had a high tea together yet – I can try it in our home town Brisbane in the meantime before hopefully getting another chance to try it in London too, from what I’ve seen there seems to be quite a few interesting places to have it in London 🙂 I think Peggy Porschen will get even busier the longer you leave it, it’s gaining so much popularity already! Would recommend you go as soon as possible. The cupcakes are delicious – loved the Red Velvet one especially 😀
I loved my visit to London. I was there for 2 days with my mom and it was much too brief. I’m planning to convince my husband to take me back and these are some great ideas for romantic things to do!!
