I strongly recommend a private photo shoot with the most darling photographer Leszek Nowakowski of icelandphotographer.is.
Leszek escorted us to several bucket list locations for epic portraits: Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach and Basalt Columns, Seljalandsfoss, Gljúfrafoss, and of course Skógafoss. Our last location was a secret hike behind Kvernufoss waterfall, where we renewed our wedding vows.
Leszek’s best photo tip was to wear bright red or bright yellow—those are the only colors that don’t naturally occur in Iceland!
If you haven’t seen any jaw-dropping photos of otherworldly Iceland since their infamous volcanic eruption in 2011, then you have not yet lived!
Our 2-night weekend in Iceland was honestly like another mini honeymoon. Words fall short to describe their country… English words, at least. Extraterrestrial landscapes like the moon; sunlight like aerated gold; fall colors like the rainbow; actual rainbows like a cartoon; scrumptious glacier water, scooped from a waterfall; gentle and kind animals; gentle and kind people.
We first toured the city of Reykjavík; then enjoyed a small SUV tour of the South Coast; then stayed overnight in a bubble under northern lights; then took a bus tour around the Golden Circle; then visited the Blue Lagoon; then spent a day with private photographer Leszek Nowakowski at secret waterfalls. We planned on exploring the Snæfellsnes Peninsula but couldn’t manage enough time.
Iceland felt as expensive as a trip to New York City. You can find cheap hostels and affordable bus tours. If this is a bucket list dream for you, then I’d encourage you to save up for just one night at a bubble hotel to do the private day tour there.
Also, don’t miss swimming at the Blue Lagoon at sunset!
