If you’re looking for romantic bars Brisbane has to offer; you can’t go wrong with treating your partner to a date day or date night at The Matriarch in Newstead.
It feels surreal walking from Masters Street towards The Matriarch. The first thing that caught our attention was the decorative iron gates with the decorative and large letter M at the entrance. It’s the gateway to one of the most romantic bars Brisbane residents or visitors can experience.
As we walk into this nineteenth-century Parisian countryside inspired oasis, my heart is in awe of the details contained in this wonderland – glass droplets hanging from tree branches, crystal chandeliers draping from the roof, a vast amount of roses and chairs covered with inviting velvety softness.
We’re greeted by a big smile and a twinkle in the eyes, then guided to our table for two, walking past romantic arches and eye-catching olive trees.
The menu boasts many unique cocktails such as the Bubble Bath themed cocktail I ordered called Take a Chill Pill.
I was mesmerized by both the look and taste of my charming cocktail.
The fresh flowers and burning kerosene lanterns added that extra special romantic feel to our dinner together.
We ordered Spicy Satay Chicken Skewers for starters and a Trio of Sliders from as a main course from the “To Share” menu. The tasty Lemon Meringue Tart was the perfect ending to our delicious experience at The Matriarch. Compliments to chef/owner Matthew De Wacht!
It was hard to leave this magical environment behind to get back to the real world – I can’t wait to go back to try a Fancy High Tea and more of the fascinating cocktails!
We’re glad we chose to celebrate our 6th Wedding Anniversary at The Matriarch Newstead and recommend it to any couples looking for date night ideas.
The food, atmosphere, service and cockails are excellent.
There are some parking right in front of The Matriarch in Masters Street. If there’s none available, your next best bet is the closest Sercure car park at Gaswork.
