Sometimes you have to venture out a little further to experience some of the best romantic Bali resorts, and Nusabay Menjangan on the West side of Bali is worth it!
Hubby and I wanted to visit NusaBay Menjangan resort since discovering it has beautiful colored water and brilliant snorkeling that’s easily accessible from the resort. It also fascinated me that it’s the only resort directly inside the protected West Bali National Park.
We arranged transport to NusaBay Menjangan from Ubud through the resort itself. They organized a driver to pick us up from our hotel in Ubud and take us to Labuan Lalang, where resort guests get onto the ferry to go to the resort. The hotel’s quote for transport was the cheapest of the quotes I got for the 4 to 5-hour drive.
The driver mentioned that driving in the morning is better as the roads are quieter. I enjoyed the long ride as we got to chat with the driver about Bali culture, and he was happy for us to stop for breaks if we needed the bathroom or snacks for the roadtrip.
Plus, he had terrific recommendations for places to have a quick stopover, which in our case included Warung Waterfall Munduk Tutub in Bali and the best photo spots at Hidden Hills Wanagiri.
We left our hotel at 10 am and arrived at NusaBay Menjangan at around 3 pm.
We didn’t have to wait very long for the resort ferry, which arrived at 15.45, and took us on a scenic boat ride across to the resort. Our luggage was carried onto the boat for us. The ferry times from Labuan Lalang harbor to NusaBay Menjangan at the time we traveled there (October 2019) were as follows but contact the resort for the most up to date information)
I was mesmerized by the water colors and loved the mountain views we got to enjoy as the ferry crossed over to the resort.
After check-in, we were guided through the resort to our accommodation, where super cute monkeys had taken over our balcony, haha.
Our room was just stunning with its four-poster bed and spacious.
The resort only has one restaurant, but it has plentiful, delicious options to choose from and incredible sea and wildlife views. Deers often passed the restaurant on the beach, and we were watchful for cheeky monkeys that tried to take chances of getting to resort guests food! You can choose to sit with your feet in the sand outside or sit inside the restaurant.
Even writing about it now, I miss the ultra-relaxing atmosphere, fresh air, and tasty food.
Once when we relaxed in the resort pool, we were treated to a show when cute monkeys played in the trees before us.
Dinners at the resort always had a romantic feel to it with gorgeous sunset views and hanging lanterns surrounding the tables for two.
We had high expectations for the snorkeling, and it didn’t disappoint! The water was crystal clear and different shades of blue. At one point, around the pier, the water is the same color as a swimming pool! It was ridiculously beautiful. We didn’t even have to jump in the water to see fish; they were visible from the pier! This snorkeling site is by far the most easily accessible we’ve ever been to while traveling around the world. We visited in October, and the weather and water temperature was just fantastic 🙂
Our only regret is not visiting the spa for a couples massage – we discovered on the last day of our stay that the spa space is stunning.
Bali has a lot of tourists, but this resort felt like it was in a remote area, and there were fewer tourists, which we loved.
