Malá Strana may mean Little Side in Czech, but don’t be fooled by its name, for there are many attractions within this charming little district. Prague may be inundated with tourists, but there are many hidden alleys in this area where you can have a moment all to yourselves and share a romantic kiss.

When you think of Prague, images of cobblestoned streets and antique buildings will probably cross your mind. While the ancient beauty of Prague certainly lends an air of romance to the city, we were thrilled to discover a quirky side of Prague at Kampa Island, located in Malá Strana. Within the park itself, you can see many installations of whimsical art, from yellow penguin statues lining the Vltava River to giant baby sculptures.

From Kampa Island, you can also get an unparalleled view of Charles Bridge with hardly a soul to disturb your couple time. There are relatively less people over at Kampa Island than the busy streets of Old Town, so it is a perfect place for a romantic photo next to the waters.

You will also catch sight of a large wall completely covered with vividly coloured graffiti. This wall is the Lennon Wall, dedicated to the famous Beatles’ singer, Lennon. It is a place where graffiti is celebrated and encouraged. Since we were there on our honeymoon, we grabbed hold of this opportunity to imprint a semi-permanent declaration of our honeymoon bliss. And just after the wall, is a small love lock bridge for couples to hang their love locks. But bear in mind that the love locks are actually removed regularly to preserve the structural integrity of the bridge.

When you look beyond the colourful locks, you will see a curious-looking water goblin statue perched over a beautiful canal winding through historic houses and watermills. This artificial channel is known as Čertovka (Devil’s Stream), though many also refer to it as little Prague Venice, for you can take a romantic boat tour to better admire the medieval buildings and former mills of Prague.
