One of the most Instagrammable affordable hotels we’ve stayed in is the Jyoti Mahal in New Delhi, India.

While browsing through many budget options for hotels in New Delhi as I was planning our trip – most seem pretty ordinary. Until I came accross pictures of the Jyoti Mahal hotel – it captured my imagination and set my dreams for a romantic escape to India in motion.

We booked an airport transfer from the airport to the hotel, which was convenient and worth it. It is often said that India can be a bit of a cultural shock, so we just wanted to ease into the experience. The hotel transfer was a great way to do so.

We arrived early in the morning when the streets of New Delhi were still asleep, not showing its true colors at all!

A warm welcome awaited us at the reception, and we were soon following some men that carried our suitcases up the stairs to our hotel room. We passed through the most beautiful corridors, captivated by all the stunning details of the hotel.

Unfortunately, during our visit, the large water feature near the reception wasn’t working, but there were more than enough stunning decorative elements to appreciate all around us.

Our unique and decorative room key had a matching lock which seemed like something out of ancient Indian history – as did the interesting door to our room.

Walking in, we were pleasantly surprised that our budget room was very spacious. I loved the decorative details on the roof and the colorful lights that hung from the ceiling.

The TV remote rested on an intricately carved table inside a decorative bowl. We unpacked our clothes and placed them onto the decorative shelves.

The large bed was honestly one of the most comfortable we’ve slept in.

I loved waking up in this gorgeous room, seeing the arches in the window frames and the thin curtain light up.

The room downstairs where we enjoyed a simple breakfast every morning had three large tables that are shared among everyone staying at the hotel. It made it easy to connect with others in the hotel, which lead to many conversations with friendly strangers about travel, other countries, and India.

The Wi-fi was most reliable in the communal resting area at the reception which had comfortable seats to relax in. These included a swing which became my favorite place to relax while checking emails on my laptop.

The area can be a bit noisy (we stayed in room 314 which didn’t appear to be soundproof) but overall enjoyed our stay. The staff at the reception are wonderfully accommodating and spoke English well.

Other people we met in New Delhi told us the area in which the hotel located isn’t very safe, but we felt safe. There was always a friendly security guard out at the front and entrance of the hotel too.

We tried to avoid going out at night as an extra safety measure.

Overall we really enjoyed our unique stay at Jyoti Mahal Hotel and recommended it to couples visiting New Delhi on a budget.
