One of the most incredible experiences you could hope to enjoy together as a couple has to be a private helicopter flight during sunset.
After experiencing a 25-minute Sunset Spectacular flight with Bekaa Air to celebrate my husband’s birthday, I can’t imagine a better helicopter ride.
The top-of-the-line aircraft we flew in, outstanding service and breathtaking location all contributed to an unforgettable experience that surpassed our expectations.
All of that and more made the expense 100% worth it for us.
While researching different companies that offer Brisbane helicopter tours, I found Bekaa Air’s offers superior when comparing the duration of the flight and the price.
The boutique helicopter company offers tours and charters around Brisbane and South East Queensland.
Conveniently, there is ample car parking in front of the Terminal Building at Archerfield Airport.
As we walked in at 4 pm, the sun illuminated the waiting area beautifully. With floor to ceiling windows showing off the planes outside, it’s not your average waiting area either. We sat comfortably on red velvet couches, excitedly waiting our turn, looking at the aviation-themed artwork that forms part of why the room is something special.
When our Pilot John arrived after completing another flight, he had a noticeably positive energy right from his warm welcome.
He walked us over to our pristine helicopter – a sight to behold! The kind of shiny red that features in the dreams of most luxury sports car lovers.
John kindly offered to help us get some photos of our beaming faces in front of the heli. A short and straightforward safety briefing followed. Soon enough, we climbed into the backseats, excited to see a champagne bottle and glasses waiting for us.
We slid our Bose headsets on and watched Pilot John prepare for take-off. We were both surprised at how effortlessly and gently the heli lifted, first floating us above the other aircraft parked down below. We could see Brisbane city far in the distance, looking as beautiful as ever, on the brink of the sunset coloured horizon.
Each scene became more and more breathtaking as we headed towards and over the city, eventually soaring above the tallest buildings. My eyes often followed the swirls of the picturesque Brisbane river into the far distance. Hubby and I both agreed afterwards that seeing our beloved city in this way was the peak of this magnificent ride for us.
It was some of the best views I’ve seen in my life, made possible by the crystal clear, top to bottom windows.
The only word my mostly speechless and stunned brain could mutter over and over again was Wow.
Not only was the tour delightful – it was informative too as John shared interesting nuggets about key attractions that form part of the vast views.
He also considerately told us when he would turn the helicopter so we’d know that we’d be leaning to the side quite a bit if it’s a sharp turn, for example. It’s just one of the many reasons why we always felt safe throughout our experience.
It was our first time flying in a helicopter, so the sharp turns’ unusual feeling was surprising at first but thrilling instead of scary. I’m missing that feeling terribly as I’m writing this, reflecting on the marvellous time we had.
The saying that time flies when you’re having fun is very true in this instance. It felt like our 25-minute flight was over far too quickly when it ended with a soft, comfortable landing.
Pilot John was generous with his time as he offered again to take some more photos for us after the tour. There we captured some of the most treasured and best memories of our life together.
Unsurprisingly, hubby rated his birthday 10/10!
John mentioned that we wouldn’t get the best photos taking shots with the camera too close to the window. I tried to keep this in mind, but some of the pictures from our flight showed I still made that mistake! Instead of capturing only the gorgeous views I saw outside the helicopter, I sometimes also captured reflections from inside.
You might want to know it can be very windy on the tarmac if you plan to wear a loose skirt! I had to try and control my hair blowing in the wind while posing for photos.
In summary, if you’re looking for a date idea that will impress and delight your significant other while you create lasting memories, you can’t go wrong with a romantic, scenic flight with Bekaa Air.
It’s perfect for celebrating relationship milestones such as a wedding anniversary, proposal, birthday, or other special occasions.
