For some of the best views on Moreton Island, don’t miss stopping by Cape Moreton Lighthouse.
It’s an easy walk up to the lighthouse from the parking area with steps along the way.
If you’re planning a romantic date, consider packing a picnic basket as there are plenty of picnic tables where you can admire stunning views while enjoying a meal together.
It’s a beautiful place for taking photos and making memories. Bring your camera and water bottle, so you can take your time exploring the area.
I can imagine the views would be even more spectacular at sunset, but it’s advised not to drive on the island after dark.
It’s said to be the oldest lighthouse in Queensland (1857) and the only one constructed from stone.
All the roads on the island are sand and only accessible by 4×4. If you don’t have a 4WD, consider booking a visit to the lighthouse with a 4WD or offroad tour company. Viator.com has day tours available from Brisbane or Gold Coast, for example.
If you decide to drive on Moreton Island yourself, you’ll need a 4×4 permit. Be sure to book the Micat Ferry to get to the island and your accommodation well in advance to avoid disappointment as the island is a popular destination for both locals and tourists.
